LIBERTY Galati ups its campaign to attract young people into the industry

The LIBERTY Galati team in Romania has had a busy month as it extends the number of educational initiatives in which it is involved as it continues its effort to try and attract more young people to join the steelmaking industry.

It signed a new partnership with “Dunarea de Jos” University Galati, to collaborate in the creation of a LIBERTY – GREENSTEEL Academy last month and has already finalised the first set of collaborative initiatives focused on applied scientific research and education.

An extended delegation from LIBERTY Galati visited a series of laboratories and micro-production points of the University and explored – together with professors and researchers – possible areas of common interest in technical fields such as: robotics, automation, electrical engineering, welding and cutting with plasma, corrosion protection, nano-technologies, environmental protection, polymeric and injectable materials amongst others.

In the same week, 45 university students from across Romania became the ninth intake of the LIBERTY Galati Summer School, an educational programme which the steelworks uses to attract new specialists and strengthen its relationships with educational institutions across Romania.

Over ten weeks, the interns work alongside mentors, specialists from the steelworks, in order to understand the current industrial realities as well as contribute to solving real issues. The interns will take part not only in projects but also training sessions run by internal and external experts as well as team buildings exercises.

Launched in 2012, the Summer School has resulted in the training of 350 students and employing 120 new specialists.
