There were joyous scenes in Galati on Sunday afternoon as the local football team, SC Oțelul Galați, achieved the victory which allows them to join Romania’s top league next season. The team, which LIBERTY and the GFG Foundation started sponsoring at the beginning of the season, won the critical match 1-0, thanks to a converted penalty in the 70th minute.
Cornel Moisescu, LIBERTY Galati’s Director of Primary Production and a founding member of SC Oțelul Galați, said: “I stood by our favorite team at the match, I felt the emotions and the stakes they played for and all I can say is that I am proud of the performances achieved and I congratulate them from the bottom of my heart! We keep fighting, keep working and keep striving to achieve our goals. An amazing victory was achieved on Sunday – qualifying for the Super League! Otelul Galați is an inspiration for our entire team at LIBERTY: we can fight on the steel market and become regional champions!”

Beyond supporting the senior team, LIBERTY Galati and GFG Foundation will contribute to the development of the club’s Children and Youth Academy to build greater interest in sport in the community by implementing a range of innovative strategies.
