Angus Macdonald, an octogenarian, celebrated more than just his 80th birthday earlier this month. He marked his 65th year with JAHAMA Highland Estates, the sister company of ALVANCE British Aluminium, during a gathering with his colleagues.
At the age of 15, Angus started working at Glenshero Estate on January 1, 1958, where there was no minimum working age and no bank holidays. He initially resided in Laggan, but for the past 37 years, he has been living at Glenshero.
Angus is a versatile worker, skilled in many areas. Recently, he has been crafting bird boxes for garden birds, as well as owls, squirrels, and bats. He has also been making garden planters, which can be seen on the estates of Glenshero, Killiechonate, and Mamore, as well as at the estate office and at the smelter.
During the celebration, Angus received gifts from the company and his colleagues. Mark Tayler, the Power and Hydro Manager at ALVANCE, expressed his gratitude to Angus for his commitment to the company, recognizing the enormous contributions Angus has made to Glenshero and the wider estate landholdings. Tayler also praised Angus’s integrity, calm demeanor, and reliability.
Pamela Kinnoch, the HR Business Partner, baked Angus a beautiful birthday cake shaped like a guitar, one of his favorite instruments. Playing the guitar has been a significant part of Angus’s life, especially when he was in a local Highland band called ‘The Virginians,’ which performed across the Highlands and Islands.
One of Angus’s colleagues commented that if they could catch him for more than five minutes when he is not busy, he would have an incredible book to write with many stories to tell. Angus’s colleagues asked everyone to join them in congratulating him on what they consider an extraordinary achievement.
