For work undertaken between January 2021 – June 2022

Change Recognising that change is a constant in the world, we are dynamic in that we seek to drive change rather than let it drive us.

We pride ourselves on having an open mindset and continually challenging the status quo. We seek out innovative ideas in order to stay ahead of the curve, and we encourage our people to persist and to overcome setbacks.

Using an agile approach, we take calculated risks. We’re nimble and respond to setbacks and opportunities at pace. Regardless of where we work, our unbridled curiosity means we are not afraid to push boundaries and innovate, adding value to every industry in which we operate.

The three award categories for Change are as follows:

Evolution Sometimes change comes along gradually over time through continuous improvement; a never-ending cycle to achieve excellence, create efficiencies and eliminate waste. This award recognises the effort and outcomes of that work.
Revolution Revolutionary change is dramatic, it’s a major difference in how things were done before. This award recognises major change and its positive impact on business, social or environmental outcomes.
Small Project, Big Change This award recognises the small changes, improvements and innovative ideas that can translate into a big impact on our people, our culture, our sites, our customers and/or our products.
Family We are more than a team; we are a family.

GFG Alliance has an inter-generational outlook, which means we make decisions for the welfare of our future generations. We do this by caring for each other, our partners and our communities in practical ways. We support, respect and help each other, making integrity and transparency the foundations for our relationships. We are inclusive, nurturing and embrace diversity to drive performance and collectively build on the success of GFG.

There are three award categories within Family, they are as follows:

Safety This award recognises individuals and teams that have a strong commitment to safety standards and practices, demonstrate safety leadership, care for others and promote ‘Be GFG safe’
Partnerships This award recognises the efforts of effective and respectful partnerships and cooperation that contributes to the success of GFG and the communities in which we operate.
Mentoring Many of us have benefitted from the guidance and counsel of mentors. This relationship requires trust, loyalty, commitment, friendship and kindness. We recognise these people and value their contribution.
Sustainability As a family-owned group of businesses, we think of sustainability across three dimensions.

First, and most importantly, economic sustainability, as it is fundamental to the success of the businesses and those who depend on them over the longer term. Second, social sustainability, recognising the important contribution of a successful industrial sector, and the jobs and security it creates, to a well-balanced and thriving society. Third, environmental sustainability, which flows naturally from the long-term perspective of a family business, which incorporates the interests of future generations.

Economic This award recognises initiatives that demonstrate an economic benefit to GFG and its businesses while working in harmony with social and environmental sustainability.
Social This award recognises initiatives, practices and programs that have made a positive difference in the lives of people around us.
CN30 Now more than ever it is imperative that we address climate change and drive our CN30 ambitions for a sustainable future for industry and society. This award recognises the work, big and small, that individuals and teams are making across the business to help GFG achieve its goal.

So, please take this opportunity to reflect on your work (over the period from January 2021 to the end of June 2022).

  1. Provide a short description of the project or initiative and don’t assume any previous knowledge
  2. Tell the judges how your project or initiative aligns with the nominated category – why it sits in safety, family or sustainability, for example
  3. Help the judges understand what motivated the project, why it was needed – was there an incident, was it a continuous improvement initiative or simply a good idea?
  4. Describe what you did and how you delivered it. Take the judges on a journey with you - tell the story of your project or initiative and include some of the challenges or hurdles you had to overcome – was it funding, timeframes, people?
  5. Importantly, what was the outcome? Was there a cost saving? What were you able to stop or start doing as a result? Was there a reputational, safety, customer, or community benefit or efficiency gains?

What supporting evidence should you provide?

  • A brief PowerPoint presentation that has supported project
  • Excel Spreadsheets that highlight growth, improvement, performance
  • Letters from customers or suppliers or community members
  • Videos or photos that show before/after
  • Anything that provides context for why your entry is “excellent”

We hope that helps, and look forward to seeing your entry soon, submissions close on 16th September.
