It’s no secret that IT experts spend a lot of time at their desks, looking at screens and taking steps to solve software and hardware problems.
Unfortunately, this often doesn’t leave much time to program a lot of physical steps to keep themselves ticking over on the wellbeing platform.
A crew from the Whyalla-based IT operations is looking to crack that code of behaviour with The AI Crowd once again entering a team in the GFG Global Health Challenge 2024. There won’t be any hint of Artificial Intelligence or deep faking in their performance either with the AI nickname coming from their shared Application and Infrastructure operations.
LIBERTY Primary Steel’s Stephen Palm, Keith Wade, Michelle Schuh, Jose Sanchez Gonzalez and Louise Thomson aren’t looking to clock up a terabyte of steps but they are keen to improve on last year’s result. Unfortunately one of last year’s members Peter Inglis has injured his foot to be replaced by Jose.
“We’ve got no illusions about winning the competition but we’re out there to improve on last year and just give it another go,” Stephen said.
“We do get stuck at our desks a bit so we’re always keen to keep pretty active in other ways and the Global Health Challenge is a perfect opportunity.”
Not only a boost to physical and mental wellbeing, The AI Crowd uses the health challenge as a team bonding experience during and after work.
“Last year we would walk from the steelworks to the rudder in the park, about three kilometres, during our lunch break,” Stephen said
“We also go as a team to the Park Run on Saturday mornings on the Whyalla foreshore to get another five kilometres worth of steps.
“It’s a beautiful location and a great opportunity to get out walking and talking with friends outside of work.”
For those that haven’t joined the health challenge push, there is still time up until Wednesday midnight (18 September) to take a step for your health and wellbeing and register your team of five now by visiting the app on your PC or mobile device before September 16.
After registering, head over to the Health Challenge channel to share your team name and tag your teammates.
