LIBERTY Bell Bay Procurement Team celebrates $1m milestone

Hard work and collaboration adds up to massive saving for smelter

The LIBERTY Bell Bay Procurement Team in Tasmania, Australia, has more than a million reasons to celebrate an outstanding 2023-24 financial year.

When the FY24 figures came through recently, it revealed the LIBERTY Bell Bay (LBB) Procurement Team had achieved a whopping $1,080,000 in savings for the year. This result came about with a lot of hard work in the areas of contract renewals, optimisation of inventory, addressing order quantities, using alternate suppliers and reducing quantities on-hand.

LBB Procurement Superintendent, Marcelo Tapia said the milestone was testament to the team’s collaborative efforts at the Tasmanian manganese smelter.

“Our team has been dedicated to identifying savings and enhancing both our supplier and stakeholder relationships,” Marcelo said.

“In addition, by applying the same cost focused structure the Stores and Inventory team have not only reduced on-hand Inventory by $700,000 over the last 12 months, but improved service levels to our stakeholders.

“As an enabling function with LBB, this team has focused on delivering the right parts, at the right time and in the right quantities … this combined effort highlights Procurement’s unwavering commitment to operational efficiency and fiscal responsibility.”

LBB General Manager, Paul Venter congratulated the Procurement Team on its fantastic achievements and said he was looking forward to celebrating more milestones.

“The Procurement team’s proactive approach not only strengthens our financial health but also sets a benchmark for excellence within the company,” Paul said.

“Moving forward, we aim to build on this success but continuing to foster innovation, streamline processes and nurture strong supplier partnerships … these strategies will ensure we remain competitive and well positioned.
