LIBERTY Bell Bay sweeps gender diversity awards

LIBERTY Bell Bay Tasmania celebrated wins at the 2022 Tasmanian Women in Resources and Manufacturing Awards.

Lorien Gear, an Electrical Planner at LIBERTY Bell Bay, received the Outstanding Tasmanian Tradeswoman, Operator or Technician Award.

Lorien will go on to represent Tasmania and LIBERTY Bell Bay at the national Awards later in the year. Lorien said “To win this award has shown that I am a respected and recognised tradeswoman in a non-traditional workplace within Tasmania. It is essential to promote women in industry and tell their successful career path stories through the TMEC awards. Present and future women need encouragement and support to advance in their current roles or pursue an industry career. We need to inspire young women that a successful and happy career in industry is possible.”

Annette Raimona, the Training Specialist at LIBERTY Bell Bay, received the Highly Commended Award in the Exceptional Woman in Tasmanian Resources category.

LIBERTY Bell Bay is an annual sponsor of these Awards which celebrate diversity and inclusion and promote the many benefits of increasing the number of women who take up positions in our resource and manufacturing industries.

General Manager Richard Curtis, who was presenting the award, gave a moving speech:

This isn’t the first time LIBERTY Bell Bay has been recognised for its work in creating a diverse and gender equal workplace.

In 2021, Production Materials Movement Manager Michael Spicer won the award in the Gender Diversity Champion category for his tireless efforts to increase female participation in the workforce.

Michael increased his team’s diversity to 50 per cent of leadership roles and 16 per cent overall female participation while simultaneously supporting the development of women in his team to advance with the company. When he accepted the award in 2021, Michael said he was proud to have supported and mentored women to achieve personal and professional excellence within the industry. Click here to read more.
