GFG Dubai celebrates Iftar

The GFG Alliance team in Dubai, came together to celebrate Iftar, the tradition of breaking fast during Ramadan, which is observed by Muslims all around the world.

What is Ramadan about? Ramadan is a holy month in the Islamic calendar, and it involves fasting from sunrise to sunset for the entire month. This means that Muslims will abstain from food and drink during daylight hours. It’s a time of reflection, spiritual growth, charity and self-discipline.

The fast is broken each evening with a meal called Iftar, which is a communal gathering where friends and family come together to share food and conversation. Iftar is a time to enjoy food, connect with loved ones, and celebrate the end of the day’s fast. Did you know, traditionally, those observing Ramadan break their fast by eating dates.

Another meal during Ramadan is called Suhoor, which is eaten before dawn and before the day’s fast begins. It’s important to have a nutritious Suhoor meal to sustain oneself throughout the day.

Fasting during Ramadan is fulfilling one of the five pillars of Islam. To me is about discipline, a trait that is important for both personal and professional growth, the ability to control impulses and to focus on the bigger reward.

It’s about family, and I try to spend time with them during Iftar, it’s a tradition I like to follow. Ramadan is a very special time of the year, and serves as a reminder of the duties we need to fulfil towards our community and the less fortunate.

At the end of Ramadan, there is a celebration called Eid al-Fitr. This is a time for Muslims to come together and celebrate the completion of the month-long fast. It’s an occasion filled with gatherings, gift-giving, and community events.

It’s important to note that while Ramadan is a religious observance, it’s also a time of cultural significance for Muslims. It’s a time to strengthen relationships with family and friends, as well as to show compassion and generosity to others. It’s a time of self-reflection, spiritual growth, and giving back to the community.
