GREENSTEEL Academy launches Connect event in Europe

As part of its mission to sustain and grow the skills we need to transform the steel industry and meet our CN30 ambition, our GREENSTEEL Academy teams have designed a series of events aimed at engaging our people and the communities we operate in.

The first event, called The Next Generation, was delivered in September.  This brought together our European sites including Skopje in North Macedonia, Ostrava in the Czech Republic, Galati in Romania, and Czestochowa in Poland.

Participants were invited from our early careers groups, such as those involved in summer school programmes and work projects, apprenticeship or internship schemes, recent graduates and current university students.

With the help of local HR teams, 100 or so participants took part in this 1-day event, where they learnt from our experts about the environmental impacts of steelmaking and the next generation of low carbon technologies, and helped them understand the progress we’re making towards decarbonisation.

Leaders from the regions were also on hand to offer additional careers advice and provide information about our local businesses and emerging transformation plans.

The participants had the opportunity to ask the speakers questions and took part in polls and fun interactive activities throughout the day. A mixture of in-person and virtual presentations brought to life how people can get involved in building a sustainable future. Each participant was presented with a certificate from GREENSTEEL Academy at the end.

Gill Chambers, General Manager of GREENSTEEL Academy said:

“The ‘Next Generation’ event provided an excellent opportunity to bring young people together across our European communities to help them understand the exciting new technologies for a greener future and the critical role they can play in achieving it.

This event would not have been possible without the efforts of the HR teams, subject matter experts, and leaders across our businesses. The feedback has been hugely positive, with an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars. Following this success, we look forward to bringing these Connect events to more people across GFG globally. Keep an eye on the Events section on the Academy’s Learning Hub GSA Learning Hub (sharepoint.com) and look out for further communications.
