#IAmRemarkable: Say it Loud, Say it Proud!

Hosted by the Womens Network, Dave Scott, GM Culture & Performance, recently conducted the very first #IAmRemarkable workshop for GFG employees.

Inspired by the organisation’s drive to enhance Equality and Inclusion, and a personal commitment to actively demonstrate his allyship, Dave introduced the #IAmRemarkable movement after discovering it via contacts on LinkedIn.

#IamRemarkable started in 2016 as an internal Google initiative. Initially, it was focused on empowering women to talk more openly about their accomplishments in the workplace, and challenging the established gender modesty norms.

However, the team quickly realised that the issues raised weren’t specific to just women – they applied to everyone, including underrepresented groups across gender, ethnicity, sexuality, ability who are more likely to experience stereotypes related to competence and ability that may discourage self-promotion.

“Empowered by the ‘I am Remarkable’ workshop, I am convinced that this initiative aligns seamlessly with the Women’s Network’s mission to cultivate team unity, nurture allyship, and enhance a sense of belonging through the shared celebration of individual achievements.”

Priscille Bernard – ESG Manager, GFG Alliance

The workshop is therefore now available to everyone: whether you are currently comfortable with self-promotion or whether you would just like to better understand the difficulties others face and challenge the existing preconceptions.

#IAmRemarkable is a now a global movement, with over 500,000 people trained feel empowered to celebrate their achievements in the workplace and beyond, while challenging the social perception around self-promotion. At the heart of the movement is a 90-minute workshop open to everyone, hosted by global facilitators.

Imposter syndrome: Stereotypes, culture, for many reasons, a lot of us feel uncomfortable sharing our achievements. By amplifying stories and research on the transformative power of self-promotion, the intention behind the workshops is to inspire every single person to share their accomplishments.

The Women’s Network plans on bringing the workshops to more colleagues across the world this year, by training local facilitators to deliver the workshop online and face to face.

The workshops are designed to create a trusting space where participants can share their achievements, without judgement.

We were encouraged to think about everything that we have experienced in life, both personal and professional – every single step that has brought us to be where you are today. Nothing is too big or too small.

The diversity and breadth of achievements that people chose to share was beautiful – a great mix of contributions, accomplishments and experiences that we all found inspiration from.
