LIBERTY Galați celebrates end of 10th Summer School

LIBERTY Galați celebrated the ending of the 10th term of its Summer School at a ceremony held at the plant, welcoming 46 students from universities across Romania who joined its internship programme. The end of the term was marked by an event organized at the “Fani Tardini” Galați Theatre, to which many former and current interns, mentors, university professors, collaborators of the programme and representatives of the management were invited.

For the last ten weeks, the interns who were selected from around 150 applicants from Galați, Bucharest, Iasi, Cluj and Constanta Universities, have been full-time employees working on projects with direct industrial applicability for the Plant. The interns, who were supported by mentors from within the industrial unit, attended training sessions in order to develop various skills, as well as took part in team-building activities that aim to create synergies and highlight the importance of team working.

Paramjit Kahlon, CEO Primary Steel and Integrated Mining LIBERTY Steel Group, gave a message to the intern cohort, saying: “The future of steel relies on achieving carbon neutrality. That is our GREENSTEEL ambition for LIBERTY Galați, but the Plant’s transformation will also benefit your future. So, we are delighted to invite you, as our future specialists, to be part of this important journey for the Plant, for the future of steel and the future of the planet.”

Aida Nechifor, General Director of LIBERTY Galați, added her message saying: “Our Academy encourages young people to join the steel industry and apply the theoretical and technical knowledge they have acquired. Thanks to all the students who have chosen to spend the summer working with us to transform our industry – we want to have you in our teams, so we look forward to welcoming you back once you have finished your studies!”

Lucian Georgescu, the Rector of Galați “Lower Danube” University, said: “I am happy that big companies such as LIBERTY are continuing this type of interactions with the Universities. It means that students can enrich their knowledge earned in classes and laboratories. I am equally happy that 80% of the students in this Summer School are ours”.

In 2020, LIBERTY Galați and the University of Galați signed a Memorandum of Understanding to create the LIBERTY GREENSTEEL Academy, in order to encourage young specialists to join the steel industry and to help to develop sustainable production processes by means of advanced scientific research.

Since 2012, more than 400 students have graduated LIBERTY Galați’sSummer School, of which more than 100 (35%) have been now been employed in the Plant. More broadly, almost 1,000 students have attended thematic sessions organised at the Plant, 500 students have conducted a traineeship along with the company’s specialists and 65 have benefited from scholarships granted by LIBERTY Galați
