LIBERTY Galati helps bridge the gap

LIBERTY Galați has delivered the heavy plate needed to complete the new railway bridge which is helping to connect Bucharest’s main station and Romania’s busiest international airport, the Henri Coandă International Airport, located 16.5 km away at Otopeni. The new Gara de Nord – Otopeni Airport route is expected to be operational this month.

The railway bridge is over 1,500 metres long and crosses over the country’s main motorway before reaching the new passenger station at the airport’s Arrivals Terminal. The project has a special significance locally, because it is the result of a partnership between two Galaţi-based companies, and at national level because it will significantly improve the journey time and the traffic congestion between Bucharest and Otopeni.

The project is a really positive step forward following the Galati team’s decision to focus on ensuring its steel was used in more Romanian infrastructure projects. “We are delighted with the role we were given in this project and also proud of the fact that we have successfully contributed to the modernisation of our national infrastructure. I am positive that there will be other Romanian infrastructure projects to come which will benefit from our efforts and experience”, Bogdan Grecu, CEO of LIBERTY Galati, stated.

The heavy plate produced by LIBERTY Galați has been used in many other major infrastructure projects, including in the structure of the 2,000 metre Bridge over Danube at Brăila, which is being built at the moment.
