LIBERTY Ostrava opens relaxation zone for truck drivers

A chance to buy a cup of coffee, reheat a meal in a microwave, take a shower or cool down in an airconditioned room. These are the major benefits of the new facility which LIBERTY Ostrava has built inside a former Post Office building opposite its headquarters.

The facility was opened by Director Operations Václav Habura, Logistics Head Iva Feglerová and HR director Jaroslav Vystrk. It is good news for all the truck drivers who collect final products from the Ostrava mill to transport out to customers.

“Our main goal was to improve conditions for truck drivers so that they meet current norms and standards. At the same time we wanted to offer truck drivers a facility that would be available 24/7,” says Václav Habura, Director Operations at LIBERTY Ostrava.

The Ostrava team found inspiration from other countries where similar facilities have been introduced.

Colleagues from plant maintenance did the reconstruction part of the project in a record time of three weeks. They renovated the whole facility and gave it its current smart modern look, including all the indoors equipment. The maintenance team also installed the communication engineering and safety arrangements. The complete renovation of the building and the inner installations cost EUR 44,000.

The facility features a relaxation room equipped with a kitchenette to prepare and reheat meals, vending machines offering beverages, snacks, and coffee. These machines are refilled 24 hours a day. The relaxation room also has free wifi and a big screen which displays all the necessary information for truck dispatching.

Besides the relaxation room, the building also offers toilets and a shower room.

A big advantage is that these services are available 24/7 to transportation company employees for free. They access the facility using a card they get along with all the shipment documents.

By the end of August, the Ostrava team intends to equip the facility with an automatic machine that will generate all input and output shipment papers. The machine will be available on night shifts as well and during weekends and bank holidays where there is no staff at the Road Shipment Desk.

We hope that this improvement will provide truck drivers with the highest possible level of service.
