Our colleagues at LIBERTY Ostrava have been supporting the public collection of the Czech League Against Cancer for more than 10 years, with the main focus being on 10th May with the “Yellow flowers of the Czech Cancer Day”. The collection is organized by the ONKO-AMAZONKY association, which is a great support for oncology patients and their relatives, with part of the proceeds of the collection going to their activities in the Moravian-Silesian Region (in which LIBERTY Ostrava is based).
The pale blue ribbon of this year’s collection, which saw the charity run out of ribbons due to demand, refers to the prevention of bronchial and lung tumors, as the organizers of the collection wanted to draw attention to the fact that:
• Smoking contributes to 90% of lung cancers.
• Lung tumors develop in the body without symptoms, and therefore is usually diagnosed only at an advanced stage.
• For smokers aged 55-74, who have been smoking an average of 20 cigarettes a day for more than 20 years, a new pilot screening program has been created in the Czech Republic….and encouraged people who could to go and sign up at their doctor’s.
• It is never a waste of time to quit smoking.
