Media spotlight shines brightly on Tahmoor operation in Australia

TV news crew visits colliery for feature story

Our SIMEC Mining Tahmoor Coking Coal operation in New South Wales, Australia, was in the spotlight recently as the local television WIN News team visited the colliery for an informative and positive feature.

WIN News visited the operation with Executive General Manager, Peter Vale and Community Liaison, Amanda Bateman, given the opportunity to explain the operations of the mine and the positive developments happening at the operation.

Peter Vale spoke on our efforts to increase our workforce numbers, pointing out that 40% of the Tahmoor Coking Coal workforce comes from the local area, while the operation takes on board community feedback and takes action where possible.

“We dramatically reduced the amount of homes that would be affected by subsidence by removing two long walls that planned to be mined beneath the township of Bargo,” Peter told WIN.

Also featured in the news piece were employees in the apprentice traineeship program with Community Liaison, Amanda Bateman, explaining the ongoing community program.

Further highlights in the news story included $179 million being put back into the local community over the past 10 years, along with Tahmoor’s continued sustainability program, as part of the GFG Alliance CN30 ambitions, to reduce the operation’s carbon footprint.
