Growing up and forging a career in industry, Executive Chairman Sanjeev Gupta knows first-hand how important safety is for our people and our business.

Given this background, he’s been the driving force behind the introduction of a new global health and safety approach, because he believes nothing is more important that the health and safety of all members of the GFG Family.

Sanjeev says the new approach is closely tied to not only the group’s values, but his own as well.

“Safety has always been incredibly important to me,” he says. “For me, making sure our people are safe while at work is one of my main duties as Executive Chairman.”

“Together, we are building a world class business, and part of that is working hard to keep ourselves and our colleagues out of harm’s way.”

The ‘Be GFG Safe’ strategy is based on the guiding GFG values of Change, Family and Sustainability and provides a new approach for how our global businesses and workforce looks out for each other so all members of the GFG family can return home safe and healthy every day.

The strategy provides a framework to guide the group on its mission to operate globally in a safe, responsible manner, with a focus on respecting the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers and the communities we operate in. It makes clear that we do not accept any injuries at work – even one injury is too many.

The Be GFG Safe strategy has four key pillars to guide our way of working:

  1. Preventing life-threatening incidents by understanding and managing our biggest risks
  2. Driving a safety-focussed culture where everyone takes responsibility for looking out for themselves, and each other
  3. Encouraging fitness for work and life through targeted health and wellness programs and support
  4. Enabling performance by constantly reviewing our processes and tools, promoting organisational learning and best practice, and maintaining our high standard of work

A team effort

Fran Nores, GFG Alliance Global Head of Safety, says the new strategy has been developed with input from across the globe.

“Our team across the globe came together to set the new standard for safety in GFG Alliance businesses. It’s time that we work together and share our safety insights to ensure that we and all our colleagues can return home safe every day,” he says.

“I’m excited to see this strategy kicked-off on our sites around the world.”
