Our colleague, Zdeněk Pácha, from the Tubular plant has set not only a new Czech, but even a European record!

At the beginning of November, Zdeněk, aged fifty-two, carried a cargo of 432 beers weighing 256 kilogram from the saddle of the Pustevny mountains to the famous statue of Radegast located at an altitude of 1,105 meters.

You know what they say, no pain no gain. His incredible performance was preceded by a hard training and earlier performances. He started his training 12 years ago in the High Tatras in Slovakia, but for his biggest climb, Zdeněk started preparing intensively just at the beginning of September, at the foothill of Lysá Mountain, where he once or twice a week walked up to the top of the mountain with a load of barrels filled with water weighing gradually from 30 to 170 kilograms.

The carriage that he made by himself is also an important part of his success. For this already quite borderline weight, he had to design a special wooden construction in order to protect himself from the danger of falling and subsequent injuries.

“The worst part was always lifting the weight and taking the first two steps and then, when it was quite possible, not increasing the number of steps so that the body should not collapse due to lack of oxygen,” explained the record holder, Pácha. As a result, he divided the hike into individual sections with a certain number of steps and necessary stops for relaxation. In the initial milder part, he was able to make more than 50 steps to have half a minute break for rest, but when the road became steeper, he decided to cut it to 40 steps to get one minute break. Easy math.
With a load of 256 kilograms, he managed to complete the entire 1250 meters long hike with some 85 stops within three hours and five minutes, including 15 minutes to adjust the rack along the way.

But this record is definitely not enough for our colleague. Immediately after reaching his destination, still carrying the cargo on his back, he said that next year he might try to carry 300 kilograms!
