Sustainability scoop: August ’22

Welcome to the August edition. I’m writing this from London where we’re expected to break temperature records this week (although that’s not hard in London!).

Whilst one hot summer doesn’t mean climate change, it certainly feels very real at the moment, as railway sleepers catch fire and transport networks grind to a halt. A reminder of the importance of climate risk planning and awareness for all of us.

On that front, we are hard at work writing the content for our first global sustainability report which will be published in Q4 this year. A huge thanks to all the environment, HR and management teams across our businesses who have helped by providing insight into their own sustainability programmes and have worked very hard to source all the data we need to report.

As ever, there is some incredible work being done by all our businesses across the world on the ESG front and we’ve highlighted some of those below.

What We’re Reading

This month, I’m trying to get my step count up despite the heat. I’m also visiting our sites across Europe to see first-hand some of the great work that is being done across risk management and sustainability. As a result, I’m listening more than reading.

Deloitte have a great podcast series called The Green Room, which tackles tricky questions relating to the world around us. I enjoyed this episode, but there are many more depending on your area of interest.
