Want to win? Here are our tips…

UPDATE: the nomination period has now closed. A big thank you to the hundreds of people that submitted their entries!

Sanjeev launched the first every Chairman’s Global Excellence Awards at the end of last year. Right now, we’re just two weeks away from the cut off period for submitting your entry, so if you’re planning on putting in a nomination, time is running out!

So far we’ve received nominations from 14 different countries and strong entries for all six categories – which is terrific. Other interesting things to note, two thirds of the entries are for teams, versus one third for individuals, and if you add up the nominations from Australia and the Czech Republic, they make up 70% of all the entries! Pretty competitive, those two nations!

If you’re planning on submitting your own entry, you have until 11:59pm on Sunday, 28 February 2021. Remember, activity from 1 July 2019 – 31 December 2020 will be considered.

Below are some tips on creating a strong nomination, and at the bottom of the page you’ll find the nomination form. Good luck!

There are six categories to choose from when nominating:

  • Change
  • Family – Partnerships
  • Family – Safety
  • Sustainability – Economic
  • Sustainability – Social
  • CN30

Those categories can cover a whole range of initiatives, campaigns, activities, or responses.

  • Site or team recovery from a natural disaster or event (fires, floods, wild weather)
  • Projects that benefit customers or partners or your local community
  • Roll outs or launches in your business – could be a safety campaign, a customer campaign,
  • Projects designed to reduce our carbon footprint
  • New products or markets entered
  • Cost saving initiatives
  • Community work, school outreach programs
  • Recruitment or workplace retention projects
  • Procurement or supplier activities that have benefited the business, our customers, or partners
  • Continuous improvement activities that have resulted in financial improvements, health or safety improvements, efficiency gains, or increased customer satisfaction
  • Since the Awards cover 31 July 2019 – 31 December 2020, they cover the COVID pandemic, you could nominate a person or team and any COVID plans they implemented

How to answer the question: Why should this nominee win the Award?

Remember, the judging panel won’t have any information other than what you provide in the entry, so it’s important to give them as much content and background information as possible:

  • Start by describing what the entry is about. (What did you do? What was the change? Why was it important? How did it make a difference?)
  • Tell them about the need. (Why did you decide this needed to happen? Was there an incident, or was this a continuous improvement activity? Or simply a good idea?)
  • What were the barriers or challenges you overcame? (Did you have to secure funding? Did you need extra resources? What was required?)
  • What was the timeframe? (How long did it take to achieve?)
  • What was the outcome? (Was there a cost saving? What were you able to stop or start doing as a result? Was there a reputational, safety, customer, or community benefit?)

What supporting evidence should I provide?

  • PowerPoint presentations that have supported project
  • Excel Spreadsheets that highlight growth, improvement, performance
  • Letters from customers or suppliers or community members
  • Videos or photos that show before/after
  • Anything that provides context for why your entry is “excellent”
