Work underway on LIBERTY Ostrava’s new steel shop

The first visible construction work on the preparation of the hall to house LIBERTY Ostrava’s new hybrid electric arc furnaces is now underway. Following months of detailed planning and preparation the dismantling of three unused railway lines, which had to be removed to allow the construction of the new hall, has been completed.

The relocation of the energy bridge (a steel structure over which pipes transporting oxygen, nitrogen, compressed air, water and other important production materials as well as electrical and data cables pass) and one remaining railway track still in the way are being prepared. The construction of a new energy bridge will begin in November, followed by the relocation of the track. The relocation works are expected to be completed by next June.

This relocation work follows the project’s kick off meeting in September, when a thirteen-member project team from Danieli (who are providing the new furnaces), including their top management visited the site. Together the teams were able to walk through the current production hall and the future construction site and discuss the ground plans and 3D models of the new technology in detail, as well as confirming the engineering requirements.
