Finding it difficult to focus?

Being distracted at work while performing high-risk tasks can lead to serious injuries or even death – here are some ways you can keep focussed on the job.

There are many reasons we get distracted and make mistakes, have lapses or slips – stress, boredom, overconfidence, getting caught in thoughts about the future or past, and uncertainty all play a role.

However, in industrial businesses like ours, it’s crucial we remain focussed when performing high-risk tasks, because someone’s life may depend on it.

Take 2: Stop and Think before you Go

Before you start a task, take two minutes to:

  • Stop and check in with yourself
  • Think about what you’re doing, ask yourself whether you’re feeling ok to complete the task, and consider whether the way you plan to complete the task is the safest way; and only
  • Go when it is safe to do so.
